The Sea Ranch Lodge is one of those places.

Set along the rugged Northern California coastline, The Sea Ranch Lodge brings together so many of the things I love most about photographing weddings: thoughtful architecture, beautiful natural surroundings, changing light, and plenty of space for a wedding day to simply unfold.

There is something especially beautiful about a Sea Ranch wedding because the landscape does so much of the work. The Pacific stretches endlessly beyond the property, while meadows, cypress trees, weathered wood, and the quiet architecture of The Sea Ranch create a setting that feels both distinctly Northern California and completely timeless.

That is one of my favorite things about photographing a wedding at Sea Ranch.

The light along the Sonoma Coast can change so quickly. A bright afternoon can soften into coastal haze, the fog can roll through, and suddenly everything feels quiet and cinematic. Later in the day, the coastline takes on an entirely different quality as the sun begins to drop.

I love allowing those changes to become part of the photographs rather than trying to control everything around them.

For me, photographing a wedding here isn’t about turning every moment into a perfectly posed photograph.

It’s about paying attention.

The way you look at each other when no one is watching. Your friends gathering around the bar. Your dress moving in the wind. Your parents seeing you for the first time. The quiet few minutes you get together before dinner. Your guests laughing around a long table. The way the landscape looks at the end of the night.
